Location: Gulu, Uganda
Date: December 2008-January 2009
Context: The Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) has been terrorizing Northern Uganda for decades. They are most infamous for recruiting child soldiers in the most brutal and inhumane ways. Despite the conflict having mostly been pushed out of the country, the scars remain on the landscape just as much as on the faces of the people.
Primary goal: To rebuild the sanitary infrastructure in a school destroyed by war.
Secondary goals: (1) To support an orphanage located in rural Uganda. (2) To support the work of Invisible Children NGO and to raise awareness about the horrible reality of child soldiers (http://www.invisiblechildren.org/).
Fundraising Goal: $6000
Fundraising methods: (1) 4-week bicycle expedition along the Ugandan-Congolese (DR) border. (2) Conferences and various fundraising events.
