My family and I had woken up in the middle of the night, trekked through the jungle in the dark, and climbed up one of the highest of the ancient Mayan pyramids. I was now sitting on a ledge, staring at the horizon, my feet dangling 60 meters above the forest floor. The show had begun. As the sun rose, it unveiled a spectacular scenery: colors slowly filled the sky in layers, pyramid tops revealed themselves amongst the trees, the jungle orchestra came to life…I was witnessing one of the most beautiful shows on earth, scheduled daily, free of charge. | ||
