The Auguste Family comprises three of the billion faces currently living in extreme poverty. I am on the other statistical end, admittedly in the wealthiest 5%. They had invited me into their home, a shack built by Fritz, a proud husband and father, and jack-of-all-trades. His beautiful wife Adline—who has never been to school a day in her life—had fed me—who has 13 years of university studies—cold beans & rice with a half-eaten chicken leg. As I was leaving, he insisted that I take 25 Gourdes, about 50 cents, to buy myself some candy he said. | ||

I’ve been to rural Costa Rica twice, and the people there have next to nothing but are the most generous (and happiest) people I’ve ever met. Goes to show where Western “values” have gone awry. Peace my friend.
