My brownish complexion has often allowed me to go unnoticed in many corners of the world. But in this land frozen in time, my brightly colored technical gear and my explorer hat gave me away from the other side of the valley. It dawned on me that in contrast to the increasing xenophobia in western societies, here the foreigner was someone to be celebrated, to be smiled at and to be assisted. There’s a lesson to be learned from the young Basotho shepherd who said to me: “Is glorious to see you in this place, you is my brothers”. | ||
