Gold Rush

Gold Rush

ghana stamp

For 20 years, small-scale surface gold mining enabled the unemployed community members, mostly women, to send their kids to school and look after their families. But everything was in jeopardy now. A Chinese mining company had zeroed in on the precious resource and had started greasing the political wheels. They were acquiring land around the village and within a few years, their industrial machinery would extract what would’ve otherwise kept the community going for decades. All that would remain is a ravaged, polluted landscape and yet more collateral victims of global industrial forces and corrupted officials.
