Kindliness

Kindliness

indonesia stamp

Out of over 50 countries that I’ve been to, I can confidently say that Indonesia is the friendliest. At least from my perspective of cycling across the little-visited island of Sulawesi. It went way beyond the ever-present smiles, the courteous drivers and the instant stardom phenomenon—involving countless daily selfies requests, unrelenting enthusiastic “Haaalo mistair’s”, and even occasional “I Love You’s”. I mean, where else would a teenager, who’d passed us on his motorbike as we struggled uphill in the sweltering heat, come back minutes later to hand us two ice-cold drinks he had bought in the next village?
