Strangled

Strangled

I regained consciousness and it took me a few seconds to realize what was happening. I was lying face down on the cold, dirty street. It was dark. My bag was gone. I had blood on my knuckles, it wasn’t mine. Then I remembered. I had focused on the two men coming towards me and never saw the thick arm that wrapped around my neck from behind…Then a man’s head jerking back as my fist smashed into his face… And another man’s body folding over as my foot sunk into his stomach… Then it all turned black.

You had to put up with one of a kind situation there Yannick. I have a feeling it was neither the first nor the last time it happened, especially in that part of the world. Keep up with the postcards !!!!

I need more details! What’s the full story?

Well, the story is that I was ambushed by three thugs at night in a sketchy neighbourhood of La Paz. They knew what they were doing and had been waiting for me in an alley. After the attack, they left me for dead in the streets. But I didn’t pass out that long, and when I regained consciousness, they were actually still around. I gave chase to them, but they used the typical strategy of splitting off in different directions one by one, and I lost them after a few minutes when the last one I was chasing disappeared into a crowded street. I lost a bag, my travel diary, my camera with all my pictures, my video camera and 3 tapes for the documentary I was shooting. luckily, they didn’t get my passport, any cash, or my credit card.

Why didn’t they get your passport, cash or credit cards? Where were you hiding them?

Over the years and out of necessity, I’ve developed all kinds of ways of concealing things on me. 🙂 They never got to them.
