Postcards From The Edge
Tales of (mis)adventure from abroad

At My Own Risk

At My Own Risk

colombia stamp

The discharge I had just signed stated that the Colombian army could not guarantee my safety beyond this military base. The incredulous soldiers who had come to shake my hand, climbed back up to take position in their bunkers. It is under the crosshairs of their automatic rifles that I pushed my overloaded canoe away from shore and jumped in as the current began dragging me slowly into the depth of this legendary “man-eating” jungle. Over the next two weeks, I would effectively have to paddle across a war zone, yet I felt confident and calm, just like the river.

You always seem to find another way to redefine the word “adventure” for me Yannick.
