In The Clouds

In The Clouds

china stamp

The mountainous trail to the Tibetan plateau had turned into a muddy river and we were pedaling upstream. We had gained 3,000 meters of altitude in a week and were now inside the clouds. It would’ve felt like a dream had it not been for our deteriorating situation. The damp cold had penetrated every last bit of skin on my body. I was shivering uncontrollably. My fingers, wrapped in dirty socks, were numb. Daylight was fading. Then, a village slowly materialized out of the fog around me. A colorful Yi woman stood at her doorway, staring, puzzled. Safety, at last.

    Yannick,
The person on the left is a woman?
I am amazed at the height of the trees if the altitude is high as here, on top of our mountains, the higher, the smaller trees grow and vegetation gets barren.
    Cheers,

The person on the left is a yak herder, who I was (unsuccessfully) trying to get information from about a village, the last human being I had the opportunity to ask was 2 days earlier! And yes, as the altitude got higher, the trees did get shorter. I think this picture was taken in the morning of that day.
