It’s an expression I use to describe the ability to imagine unexplored possibilities by looking at a map, which I personally consider a true artform. For instance, to avoid crossing Sumbawa on the main road, we got a fisherman to take us from the tip of this peninsula, to a deserted beach at the northeastern end of Moyo Island. We then navigated narrow singletracks for 40 km, along the eastern shore and over the central mountains, to emerge on the western coast, where we caught the daily ferry to the other end of Sumbawa. Now, how beautiful is that?
