We rented the small 4×4 vehicle to head deep into the remote jungle between Guatemala and Honduras. The fact that it did not have a working fuel gauge or odometer didn’t seem to bother the owner. Neither did the fact that there was a huge hole in the floor; on the contrary, he seemed quite enthusiastic about it: This way, we could evaluate the road condition much more accurately. Makes sense, I guess. At least, turning the key had brought the engine to life, now all we could hope for was that it would survive the return trip. | ||

I am laughing as I look at this postcard. When I went to Bishops, my father often made me drive the oldest of his cars. It was a much beloved,(by him), Mercury Meteor 3 seater row station wagon, and it too, had a whole in the floor. Being a teenager , I wanted to look my best, and wasn’t very happy on rainy days when I arrived at class covered in mud and water!I wonder if I was required to use this vehicle as I had just got my drivers liscence. Also, It was a big car, and whenever i went over a bump, the seat would slide back and I couldn`t reach the pedals!
