After a week-long expedition paddling down the Nam Tha and sleeping in the jungle, it seemed that my entire state of being had slowed down to the pace of the water. So I can’t begin to describe the shock of having to finish the journey in a notorious Mekong speedboat. These colourful death traps are designed to transport—or maybe teleport—up to six human lives crammed like sardines in a tiny aerodynamic contraption at breakneck speed. And so, for 6 adrenaline-filled hours, the river turned into a racetrack scattered with jutting rocks, floating logs, and fishermen frozen in motion. | ||
