Charged

Charged

botswana stamp

The African farmer had been clear: The one animal I did not want to come across was an angry mother elephant protecting her calf. One easily realizes that we are among the weaklings of the animal world. Everything else seems faster, stronger or more agile. It’s a miracle we made it out of prehistoric times. But here I was, face to face with the real-life giant, flapping her ears, lifting dust clouds off the ground. Her stare was menacing. Her every stomp resonated in my gut. Then she charged. My heart stopped. She curved away. Lucky, a mock charge.

…hmm… let me guess you weren’t “close” enough again for your zoom yet?… 🙂

Indeed, getting a better camera would save a lot of trouble I think…The worst I did, I think, was to try to get “close enough” to a pride of Lions I saw sleeping in the sun in the distance…OK, My parents don’t like to hear these stories, so I’ll stop here.

I’m grateful for your new site that allows me to know about the other parts of your adventures. Almost all year round, I’m thousands miles away from you but my heart and prayers accompagny you everywhere. Like all parents, my distant disagreement couldn’t make a difference but I’m confident as I know that you can always manage. So, just take care of yourself every time and at any occasion.
Tons of love from Mom and I.
