Stargazing

Stargazing

the-gambia stamp

Five days in, the expedition was not progressing well. We hadn’t expected to face the rising tides so far upriver. I was exhausted. My sister and her boyfriend had crashed in the tent. The moonless night was perfectly still and clear. I untied my canoe and glided effortlessly towards the middle of the river. The surface was smooth and flat, like a mirror. I could see the reflection of a million stars in the water. I laid down in my boat and looked up. A deep sense of well-being enveloped my body. I was floating amongst the stars.

It reminds me of the word “peaceful” because there you are, alone but with the whole world at your touch.

Thank you for reminding me of a million perfect summers, a million reasons more of why I love the world. We are, indeed, floating amongst the stars.

J’adore celle-là, c’est une de mes préférées. Et la photo est magnifique.
