Happy-go-lucky

Happy-go-lucky

We were cycling blissfully along the Pamir “Highway”, one of the most visually stunning roads in the world. We were overwhelmed by the magnificence of the surroundings and ecstatic at the fact that we’d barely seen any vehicles in days. But isolated at 4,000 meters in altitude, it is also known for an adverse reason. It is dubbed the Opium Highway. We later learned that two days after our passage through the Khorog checkpoint, the entire region had been locked down and forbidden to foreigners for an entire month. An operation to arrest a local drug-lord had gone terribly wrong.

I’m glad for the update, and moreso glad that you continue to be alive. 🙂 Danger seems to like hovering quite close to where you are. Stay safe out there.
