Promise Kept

Promise Kept

We were walking back towards the orphanage and the kids were laughing, jumping and throwing punches through the air. Yet I was sad. My 3-hour boxing lesson was just a glimpse of an opportunity they could never have. Henry asked me when I would come back to teach them more. As hard as it was to admit while looking into his hopeful eyes, I couldn’t guarantee that I actually would. But I made him a promise: I wouldn’t forget him, and I would try to send volunteers next year to offer them a boxing summer camp. Promise fulfilled.

This summer is a little too soon for me to volunteer for this project, but is there going to be a repition, maybe a shorter one over the Christmas holidays? I REALLY want to be a part of this.

Absolutely, I’m preparing the first group to leave in May, but this is a running project from now on, and seeing the interest after my info session about it this week, it looks like I will actually get to send a group every semester from now on…It’s the best thing I could’ve hoped for.
