My little sister was up for a real expedition and she’d definitely proven herself over the past three weeks: We had pedaled—pushed—our packed bicycles about 1000 kilometers along dry river beds and goat trails, through hail storms and over 3000-meter passes to this stunning valley hidden deep in the High Atlas Mountains. Alas, our only way out was up these cliffs, and rock-climbing with our bicycles and gear strapped to our backs was simply not part of our deal. As for hitching a helicopter ride, that seemed unlikely in these parts. Fortuitously, the local alternative came trotting along.
