Haiti (in progress)

Location: Croix-des-bouquets, Haiti

Date: September 2011-Ongoing

Context: Haiti is among the 10 poorest countries in the world. One in 10 children does not live past the age of 5. Among those who reach that age, one fourth never go to school and only less than two thirds complete their primary education. Some work to survive while others join street gangs or are lured into slavery or prostitution. Without access to education, the cycle of poverty will be perpetuated for these children and their own children.

Primary goal: To build a sustainable quality primary school for about 300 children with little or no access to quality education, in an underprivileged community on the outskirts of Port-au-Prince.

Secondary goal: To offer to groups of young volunteers an opportunity to get involved in international cooperation through an annual 2-week humanitarian trip in the community.

Fundraising Goal: $150,000 ($100,000 raised so far)

Fundraising methods: (1) Online donations. (2) Conferences and various fundraising events organized by volunteers and students.
