The Gambia (completed)
Location: Sambel Kunda, The Gambia
Date: December 2009-January 2010
Context: The Gambia is one of the poorest countries in Africa. Parents, especially in rural areas, cannot afford the yearly school fees of around $100 for their children. Secondary goals: (1) To support the mothers of the children in a fair-trade business for their hand-made crafts. (2) To support and raise awareness about the work of The Horse & Donkey Trust, a veterinarian NGO working to save working animals in rural Gambia (http://www.gambiahorseanddonkey.org.uk/).
Fundraising Goal: $2000
Fundraising methods: (1) 2-week canoe expedition down The Gambia River in complete autonomy. (2) Conferences and various fundraising events.
