The room was small and dark. Its concrete walls were bare. The humid heat was almost unbearable. Mosquitoes were feasting while four armed men stood behind me, silent. The situation felt tense. I was sitting, staring at an empty, worn-out wooden chair. Soon I would have to explain myself to its authorized appointee. It had been over an hour since a young soldier had left, running, to get a higher-ranking officer—someone who knew how to deal with foreigners who had been caught in a forbidden zone. So I waited, building my case.

Like you JP, I’ve been blessed with constant optimism, which helps in these situations.

Haaaaa. Optimism! About the only thing one has left in that situation, innit? 😉
