Stranger to Friend

Stranger to Friend

azerbaijan stamp

My way of traveling often makes people feel sorry for me, which tends to translate into abundant food and comfy beds. That’s what happened that evening when, after cycling over 60 kilometers through a deserted landscape, I finally came across a settlement. Population: 5—including the family of 3 who insisted I stay the night. I always find it remarkable how quickly these relationships evolve. From being seen as just another crazy westerner as I knock on their door in desperate need of water, to feeling like a genuine friend whom they’re sad to see leave by the next morning.
