Literally squeezed between the majestic Sierra Maestra and the sapphire Caribbean Sea, this wild stretch of road is known as the best and worst in Cuba for obvious reasons. The day ahead was long, but I was breathing in inspiration with each pedal stroke. You see, this stunning rollercoaster ride traverses Fidel’s and Che’s prime guerrilla territory—the very place where, after a disastrous disembarkment, a handful of bright young revolutionaries armed with a few rifles and a profound belief in social justice, managed within two years, to defeat a dictator at the head of an army 1000-times larger.
