Dancing Skies

Dancing Skies

The show had begun, and it was of epic proportions. I kept quiet to avoid attracting attention—you see, First Nations here believe the spirits of their ancestors may carry you away if you call out to them while they dance in the night sky. Despite the exhaustion and the cold, I couldn’t miss a second, so I resisted the lure of my sleeping bag for four breathtaking hours. The amphitheatre was a vast, high-elevation tundra plateau, 500 kilometers from the nearest light source. The audience comprised large herds of caribou and countless arctic ground squirrels. It was beyond magnificent.
