The destroyed village was lifeless except for two lonely water buffaloes, which only made the scene that much more mysterious. My best guess was a flood. The only structure that hadn’t sustained any damage was the temple above the village—it had suffered a slower and less violent fate. Then there was the old man, the one who had appeared like a ghost high up on the opposite riverbank the previous night. He had patiently glanced over every bit of these ruins and then, just like the temple also abandoned by the villagers, he was swallowed up by the jungle. | ||
