The situation was disastrous. Our meticulously prepared food drop, which was supposed to keep us alive for the next two weeks along the notorious Canol Trail, wasn’t there. Luckily, Shaun, a respected member of the Kaska Dena First Nation and a true angel, was there. He not only hosted, fed, and drove us—two strangers—for 6 hours to the closest supermarket to resupply, but to help us make up for the lost time, he gave up his truck for 2 days so that we, our bicycles, gear and food, could be taken as far north as the road went.
